Prior to starting BIOL342 I had no knowledge of LinkedIn, a social networking site that can help as a resource for professionals to find jobs and build professional connections with other people. At first, I didn’t know how to use LinkedIn or set up an account, but overtime I managed to learn a lot about LinkedIn and created a profile.

I started as beginner for LinkedIn with my profile containing only my name, location, study course and interested jobs. I put in laboratory assistant and laboratory technician as my interested jobs. I later learned about one of LinkedIn’s features where I can receive notifications about possible job opportunities.

Over time I added a profile picture, ‘Top skills’, ‘About’, my UOW and TAFE education history and managed to make 3 connections on LinkedIn. I also added pathology laboratory assistant, histology technician and laboratory chemist to my list of interested jobs. Adding all these things to my profile allowed me to go from a beginner to an intermediate.

I have received many job alerts and opportunities for Medical Laboratory Assistant and Medical Laboratory Technician. I will consider choosing one of these careers in the future.

For LinkedIn, I aim to continue connecting with people and expanding my profile so that I can go from an intermediate to all-star. I will also aim to stay up to date with my LinkedIn profile and find more job opportunities.
